Accommodation in Antequera
Antequera has a wide variety of places to stay both within the town centre and on the outskirts. There is quality private accommodation for people prefering self catering, and a full range of hotel accommodation to suit budgets. There is also a mobile home and campsite outside Antequera town on the road to the Torcal Nature Park.
We recommend two properties:
A very large split level two bedroom apartment, in the historical area of San Juan, with plunge pool and private patio with dining / BBQ facilities and a mature lemon tree as a central feature. A tranquil and private setting.
A cottage style house in the old Spanish quarter with stunning views over the town to the castle and Torcal mountain range. It has two bedrooms, breakfast patio off the kitchen, and a large roof terrace accessed off the breakfast patio via a spiral staircase featuring a ‘chiringuito’ relaxation area, plunge pool, and dining / BBQ facilities.
The plunge pools are unique for private accommodation in central Antequera.
Both are tastefully designed, and fully equipped for long or short term holiday stays. There is WiFi in both.
The owners, Rupert and Melanie, have lived in Antequera for 10 years and have plenty of local information available (tips on shopping, banks, restaurants etc) including tourist maps to Antequera town and the surrounding region.
Minimum stay is 3 nights.
Ranges from 5 star to 1 star, depending on requirements and budget.
The 1 and 2 star Hostales in the town centre offer good value for money accommodation, with bathrooms on suite. They are well serviced, and well positioned. Prices range from approximately 28 euros (single) to 58 euros (double) depending on requirements and season. These include: Hotel San Sebastian, Hotel Numero Uno, Hotel Castilla, Hotel Colon, Coso San Francisco. All have around 15 rooms or so (Coso san Fransico 10 rooms).

Antequera has a 5 star Parador, located on the Paseo García del Olmo by landscaped gardens, and is two/three minutes walk from the Plaza de Torro (bull ring) and town center. It is modern (in contrast to many of the Paradors throughout Andalucia and Spain), with all the facilites you would expect from a 5 star rating. The ample swimming pool is set in well manicured lawned grounds, offering a tranquil environment with terrace bar and food service. The restaurant is well rated, though on the pricey side. Staff are efficient. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. It is a common venue for conferences and small exhibitions, and it is best to enquire about this first if considering a private reservation as service can suffer at the personal level.

The 5 star Hotel Magdelena is a newly converted convent, just out of town (approximately a 10 minute drive) and near the Antequera Golf Course. It was originally the Convent of Saint Peter of Alcantara, constructed in 1584, and subsequently reconstructed between 1691 and 1708. It is a wonderful building, with annexes and quaint stairways. There are 21 en suite bedrooms, which are all nicely furbished. There are spa facilities, good basic gym, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The restaurant serves pleasing cuisine, the kitchen being cheffed by locally reputed Davíd Muñoz, in a nice atmosphere with full width windowing to the lovely surrounding views. There is terrace dining in the summer months, usually with a barbecue style menu. The bar offers some good wines at a reasonable price for a 5 star venue. As with the Parador, it is best to check on conferencing or weddings before reserving accommodation or dining, as again personal service can suffer.

The Hotel Finca Eslava is 4 star, with an appealing Andalusian atmosphere due to it’s ’18th century Cotijo’ design. It is situated on the border of Antequera town on the Córdoba road, approximately a five minute drive from the center of Antequera. The accommodation is very good, with 30 rooms including two suites. There is an adjoining sports centre with indoor and outdoor pool, large gym, and classes. Most of the facilities free to residents. The restaurant has a good menu, not too highly priced for the quality of the food, and the wine list is extensive, containing some well priced wines. It is a popular venue for weddings due to the lovely garden area, usually with Morrocan style marquees for these events.

Antequera Golf Hotel, a 4 star, is very popular, situated on the edge of the town, with 180 rooms . It has an indoor and outdoor pool, sports facilities, small sun tanning area, and a night club. There is a spacious social bar and lounging area just beyond the reception desk. The Antequera Golf course is a short drive away, and one of the reasons for the hotel´s popularity. There are beautiful views from the course and the club house terrace. The company is very active in promoting events at the hotel and the Golf Club, and you will see a considerable amount of publicity if you visit Antequera. Rooms are reasonably priced.

The Hotel Coso-Viejo is a 3 star former 18th century ancestral home. It is right in the middle of town, overlooking the Museum square, with front bedrooms having a direct view of the square and the castle. All modern facilities and WiFi. There is a restaurant below the hotel, and buffet breakfast in a pretty internal courtyard. There are also related dining facilities on the square itself during the warm months. Rooms are small but nicely furnished and clean. Friends of ours who have stayed there have mentioned the traffic noise in the front rooms. Well priced accommodation, with friendly staff and service. Rooms are not expensive given the location. Parking can be a niggle, as with anywhere centrally located, but pulling over to drop off luggage is not a problem.
